Twelve questions to ask before you rebuild your website
Most rebuilds start with a feeling: the site looks old. This sheet turns the feeling into twelve answers you can score, before anyone asks for a quote.
What is inside
- Twelve questions in three groups: what the site does now, what the numbers say, and what the plan is.
- A nought, one or two score for each, so the answer is a total and not an argument.
- What each total means: fix, restructure or rebuild.
- A one-paragraph brief you can paste to an agency or a developer once you have decided.
Who it is for
- A marketing manager who has been handed "we need a new website" and a deadline.
- A founder deciding between a redesign and a set of fixes.
- An agency that would rather quote the right job than the biggest one.
Why score it
A rebuild is the most expensive thing most businesses ever do to their website, and the least measured. It is usually decided by whoever dislikes the current design most. The questions below do not ask whether the site is pretty. They ask what it does, what it is measured on, and what the new one would be asked to do differently. If you cannot answer a question, score it nought. Not knowing is the finding.
