Don’t AI crawlers run JavaScript?

Google’s crawler does. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and most AI agents fetching a page for a user read the HTML the server sends and stop there. Content drawn later by JavaScript does not exist for them.

My page looks fine in a browser. Why does it fail?

Browsers run the JavaScript that fills the page in. Sites built as single-page apps (React, Vue or Angular without server rendering) send an almost empty page and build the rest in the browser.

How do I fix a page that fails?

Render it on the server or pre-render it at build time. Next.js, Nuxt, Astro and most CMSs do this already; a client-only React or Vue app needs server rendering or a pre-rendering step.
