Your numbers,
their questions.

Forty minutes, five numbers, one page. Everything here is arithmetic you can show, and nothing here lets you promise a return you cannot prove.

What you’ll take away.

  • Find your five numbers, each with a source and a period.
  • Do the two multiplications and show the working.
  • Choose a target, and be honest about where it came from.

Why 'traffic is up but leads are down' loses the room

That sentence is true, useful to you, and useless to a director, for three reasons.

It has no size. Is this a rounding error or a quarter of the pipeline? They cannot tell, so they have to ask, and now you are on the back foot.

It has no owner. Nothing in that sentence says what is supposed to happen next or who does it.

It has no end. There is no point at which anybody finds out whether it was addressed.

The fix is not better presentation. It is five specific numbers.

The five numbers, both calculations set out step by step, the five lines to write, and the words to avoid when you present it.

  • The five numbers, each with a source and a period box
  • Both calculations, set out so you can show the working
  • The five lines, and the words to avoid
  • No prefilled benchmark, because we do not have one we could defend
